In 2018, the members of the Arab Forum of Insurance Regulatory Commissions (AFIRC) agreed to move the Forum into a Union (AUIRC), hence strengthening and formalizing the collegial cooperation among regulators.

The Arab Union of Insurance Regulatory Commissions brings together regulatory bodies in the insurance sector of the Arab countries.

The Union aims to develop supervisory capacities, encourage harmonizing legal frameworks in the Arab world, support the launch of field initiatives for the insurance sectors, assist in building capacities of insurance specialists in the Arab world, and support the building of a sound competitive and stable regional insurance market.

The Union will have the City of Abu Dhabi as a permanent Headquarter.

It is important to remind that AUIRC was founded as the Arab Forum of Insurance Regulatory Commissions in Amman, in 2007. At that time, establishing AFIRC was a natural response to the accelerating developments in the insurance industry in the Arab countries.
